Is the Bible verse widget free?

Yes. The widget is completely free, with no sign-up, no account, no tracking and no ads. Paste one line of code and it works. The only condition is that the credit link back to random-bible.com stays visible in the card.

Will it work on Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress?

Yes. Anywhere you can add an HTML or “embed/code” block, the snippet will run: WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Weebly, Webflow, Ghost, or plain hand-written HTML. It is a single script tag and a div, with no build step and no plugin to install.

Can I change the translation or the look?

Yes. Use the customizer above to pick a translation (KJV, WEB, or ASV) and the appearance: light, dark or auto theme, accent colour, serif or sans-serif font, alignment, and size. Your choices are written into the embed code as data attributes, so nothing else changes.

How often does the verse change?

Once a day. Every visitor to your site sees the same verse on the same day, which is what makes it work as a “verse of the day” — it does not reshuffle on each page load or confuse someone who reloads. The verse is drawn from the same curated pool the generator uses.

Will it slow my site down?

No. The script is loaded with the async attribute, so it never blocks your page from rendering, and it pulls one small JSON file of verses. It loads no fonts, no frameworks and no third-party trackers.

Does the widget collect any data about my visitors?

No. It sets no cookies, sends no analytics, and does not identify visitors in any way. That also means you do not need to mention it in a cookie banner or consent flow.

What happens if your site goes down?

The card degrades to nothing rather than breaking your layout: the container renders empty and the rest of your page is unaffected. The script is served from a CDN, and the verse data is cached by the visitor’s browser for an hour.

Can I remove the credit link?

No — the credit link is how the widget stays free. It is a small line in the corner of the card, and it is the reason other churches find the widget for their own sites. Please leave it in place.
